This large Victorian property near to Queens Park had been previously refurbished on the upper floors but retained a cramped and unimpressive kitchen that wasn't suitable for the family.

The space was opened up and extended with a full-length side return and a rear extension to enlarge the kitchen and dining space. At the same time, the existing level change from front to back of the property created an opportunity to excavate the floor level and increase the ceiling height to an impressive 3m.

The roof of the side return is fully glazed to maximise natural light with careful detailing of the concealed gutter and brickwork parapet. Full width 3m high, slim-line sliding doors were installed to the rear, opening onto an external terrace laid with herringbone clay pavers which overlooks the newly landscaped garden.

The whole of the ground floor was redecorated, including the front reception rooms to create warm, welcoming spaces with ample storage, whilst still resulting in a light filled and modern home.
